Good news: Google Ads advertising investment tax abolished
Since October 1, 2024, Google has been charging a Digital Services Tax (DST) for ads served in Canada. However, as of July 1, 2025, this tax will no longer be charged, following thefollowing the Canadian government's announcement to end this measure on June 29.
In concrete terms, what does this mean for advertisers?
The "Canada DST Fee" surcharge will no longer be added to your Google Ads invoices, effective July 1ᵉʳ, 2025.
Until July 31, some reports may still show DST charges, but they will be automatically removed from your invoices, and you will not pay them.
Other applicable taxes (GST, QST, etc.) continue to apply as usual.
What happens to fees already billed?
Google plans to refund the fees collected since July 1, once the official withdrawal of the tax has been adopted by the government.
